Bench tells Bengaluru police not to harass Bhavish Aggarwal or Subrat Kumar Das while petitioners move to quash FIR in engineer K. Aravind’s suicide; court has sought responses from the State and the complainant.

The Karnataka High Court has stepped into a sensitive matter involving OLA Electric after the company’s founder, Bhavish Aggarwal, and a senior technical official, Subrat Kumar Das, approached the court to quash an FIR that names them in connection with the suicide of an employee.

The deceased, K. Aravind, a 38-year-old homologation engineer employed at OLA Electric since 2022, died after consuming poison at his residence in Chikkalasandra, Bengaluru on September 28. His brother, Ashwin Kannan, filed a complaint after a suicide note recovered from Aravind’s house reportedly named Subrat Kumar Das and Bhavish Aggarwal as responsible. The complaint also alleged mental harassment and that salary and allowances were denied, and it drew attention to a transfer of ₹17,46,313 into Aravind’s bank account two days after his death that the family flagged as suspicious.

Acting on the complaint, the Subramanyapura police registered FIR Cr.No.372/2025 on October 6. The FIR accuses Aggarwal, Das, and unnamed others associated with OLA Electric of offences including abetment of suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

On October 17, a Bench led by Justice Mohammed Nawaz issued an interim order directing the Bengaluru police not to harass the petitioners “in the guise of investigation.” The court’s direction protects Aggarwal and Das from being targeted or subjected to undue pressure by investigating officers while the challenge to the FIR is heard. The High Court has sought responses from the State and from Ashwin Kannan, the complainant, and the matter remains pending.

The petition and the interim order underline the tension between a family’s demand for accountability and the court’s role in ensuring that criminal investigations proceed without crossing into harassment of those accused. The High Court will now consider whether the FIR is maintainable and will decide on the petition after hearing the parties and examining the material on record.
